A new favorite saying

Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.

As someone who is very allergic to cigarette smoke (I develop bronchitis) this is a real sore subject. I really don't care if people want to pump smoke into their lungs but please leave mine alone.

Of course, people have the right to smoke but I also have the right not to inhale noxious chemical cocktails against my will. I remember in some corporate training session on discrimination while others were talking about being discriminated against because of the color of their skin, gender, ethnicity, etc...one white woman had the temerity to stand up, voice quavering, and say that she felt less than human, and so discriminated against because she was a smoker. Everyone was polite but there were tons of rolling eyes and "can you belive that?" expressions.

Phew!!! I feel better now.

Hello,
Glad you could drop in to my blog.I love the analogy you start with in this one.
Are you a writer by profession or are you doing something else as well in Boston...did I get that right?:s

Enigma, I wish I could take credit for this analogy. Some public official (I am blanking out on the name) said this in Calabassas, CA, when they enacted their no second-hand smoke in any public space rule.
In my day job I am a book editor for technical books. But I am also a freelance writer (a couple of essays in upcoming anthologies later this year) and my first novel comes out in July/August this year as well.

Thanks for being a regular visitor to my blog.
